“Cannot Watch this video outside of the United States” .. until now !

April 6, 2010

The above is what you would see if you were to watch from outside of the United States – “Unfortunately this video is not currently available in your country or region. We apologize for the inconvenience.”.  This is what I see when I go to the site, I live in Canada. This is not just limited to There are some videos embedded on some sites, that won’t play because I am not in the United States. I get the message: “You cannot watch this video outside the United States”

There are ways around this. While googling, I found that you can set up a VPN connection, and that will trick the sites into thinking you are from the US, and thus, be able to stream the videos.

In this post, I will show you the EASIEST and FREE way of doing this. Basically a “HOW TO” post. There are TONS of VPN service providers out there, but they all are pay services. Here is a link to a list of VPN providers, if you so choose to go the pay route:

But who wants to pay for something that you can get for free ?

So this is how we go about doing this. You go to this website here::

You install the application (the application installs a toolbar for your browser. I never install these things cause they end up being spyware and really mess up your computer, so I chose NO, when it asked me if I wanted to install the toolbar. Who knows, maybe its not malware, but I really don’t wanna risk it. Anyone out there know if its safe ? I really do wanna support these guys.. just don’t wanna mess up my laptop in doing so.)

Launch the app, and it should launch your browser and show you that it’s connecting. It should look something like the following:

That’s it !. Once your status says connected, you can go and watch the videos that you couldn’t before. So far, this process works flawless for me. There has been no hiccups (knock on wood) so far. No lag, no errors, no “cannot watch this video out of the United States of America” message.

So to all you Canadians out there…. Go enjoy the wonders of It is an AMAZING site and has kept me up ALL night the past couple nights catching up on my TVing.

Great little program! BUT.. Hulu blocked my viewing since it thinks I’m connected to a proxy server.

apparently hulu has caught on. Now the message says based on your IP you are using a proxy blahblahblah.

too bad, but will still be useful for other sites
